Our Pastor,
Rev. Jay Martin, D. Min.,:
Jay came to FBC in January of 1979 (yes, that means that he's been here for more than 29 years!). The Lord continues to bless and use Jay as pastor of First Baptist to minister to the community of Manistique and the outlying areas. Jay likes to encourage the church family to be engaged in various forms of ministry and service.
Jay is the son of a Baptist pastor, so he almost literally grew up in the church. He spent his high school and college years in Michigan. He's a graduate of Michigan State University (GO STATE!). He then completed his Masters in Divinity at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY (1978). While serving as pastor at FBC, Jay worked on and completed his Doctorate in Ministry degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, IL, in 1988.
Jay is active in the community through various organizations. He's a member of the Manistique Ministerial Association, Hospice, Manistique Area Kiwanis Club, Schoolcraft County Coalition for Safe and Stable Housing, Schoolcraft Health Access, Critical Incident Response Team, and a board member of Hiawatha Behavioral Health. In January of 2002, Jay was sworn in as a Chaplain for the Michigan State Police and is assigned responsibility for the Manistique and Munising posts. As a volunteer Chaplain he is given the honorary rank of captain.
Jay and his wife, Jan, have two adult children; Jacole and Jared. His primary hobbies include photography and bagpipes.
